# Set up monitor alerts

Get notified when a monitor detects an issue with your service.

You can configure multiple alert channels to ensure you're notified about the right issues at the right time.

## Add an alert

### Alert type

There are multiple alert channels to choose from:

- Email
- SMS
- Slack
- Discord
- Microsoft Teams
- Phone call
- Webhook
- WhatsApp

### Monitors

Select the monitors that will trigger your new alert.

### Send when a monitor

Configure alerts to run based on the state of the monitor:

- **Fails** - Your service is completely down or unreachable
- **Recovers** - Your service has returned to normal operation after a failure
- **Degrades** - Your service's performance has decreased below acceptable thresholds
- **SSL expires** - Your SSL certificate will expire in a specified number of days
